REUTERS APOLOGIZES TO FENER-GREEK ORTHODOX PATRIARCH
Fener-Greek Orthodox Patriarchy said that press reports about Patriarch Bartholomeos' statement on Heybeliada Seminary were baseless. Releasing a statement, the Patriarchy said Bartholomeos was quoted in today's papers as saying in an interview with Reuters News Agency that ''European Union (EU) should put pressure on Turkey'' or ''Heybeliada Seminary would be opened with pressure of the EU''. The statement noted that press reports with expressions offending the public opinion were baseless. Reuters's Turkey correspondent sent an e-mail to Bartholomeos and apologized to him.

HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED IN ISTANBUL
There will be heavy rain in Istanbul today. Temperatures will decrease 5-7 degrees Celsius in the city. Governor's office warned citizens about heavy rain and storm.

TERRORIST VISIT OUTRAGES
Osman Baydemir, the mayor of southeastern Diyarbakir province, drew harsh reaction when he paid condolence visit with the official municipality car to the family of a PKK terrorist who was killed in police operation after he killed a watchman. The Diyarbakir Governor's Office indicted him and Justice Minister Cemil Cicek said, ''nobody should defend murder.''

''HOCUS POCUS'' JUST IN ONE MINUTE
International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) report explained in detail what happened during doping test of European women's 1,500 meters champion Sureyya Ayhan of Turkey. According to the report, Sureyya Ayhan met two officials who came to take urine samples. Just ''one minute later'' of this conversation, her stuntwoman Gunseli Oz went inside the doping test room instead of Sureyya Ayhan and submitted her urine sample. However, the scandal was revealed.

ALPOGAN TO BE APPOINTED AS SECRETARY GENERAL OF NSC
A full consensus of opinion has been reached about appointment of Yigit Alpogan, who currently acts as Turkish Ambassador to Greece, as secretary general of National Security Council (NSC) as of September of 2004. Alpogan has been known with his experience on security issues.

''TROJAN HORSE'' IN ISTANBUL
The wooden horse which was used in the movie ''Troy'' was brought from Japan to Istanbul. The ''Trojan Horse'' of 12 tons is composed of 350 pieces. The horse was brought from Japan to Istanbul by a vessel of Denmark-based Maersk Sealand Firm. It will be handed over to the Governor's Office in northwestern province of Canakkale in the coming days. The Warner Bros Entertainment Japanese Inc. donated the horse to the Canakkale governorate. The horse is expected to be displayed during the 41st Troy Festival in Canakkale in the coming months.

REACTION TO BARTHOLOMEW
Turkish Justice Minister and Government Spokesman Cemil Cicek said that any additional legal arrangement was out of question for European Union's (EU) setting a negotiation date for Turkey in December. When reminded the statement of Fener-Greek Patriarch Bartholomew who said that EU would not set a negotiation date for Turkey if Heybeliada Seminary was not opened, Cicek said that Turkey would decide whether seminary would be opened or not. Cicek noted that the condition of EU's setting a negotiation date for Turkey was related to political criteria, adding that this issue did not have any connection with opening of seminary.

DIYARBAKIR GOVERNOR'S OFFICE INDICTS BAYDEMIR WHO VISITED RELATIVES OF A TERRORIST
The Diyarbakir Governor's Office officially indicted Diyarbakir Mayor Osman Baydemir who paid a visit of condolence to relatives of a terrorist who was killed in an operation in southeastern Diyarbakir province. The Governor's Office will also request the Ministry of Interior Affairs to appoint an inspector to investigate the event.

ALPOGAN: CANDIDATE FOR FIRST CIVIL SECRETARY
The Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government decided to appoint Turkish Ambassador to Greece Yigit Alpogan as the Secretary General of the National Security Council (NSC). Final decision will be made by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.

SHOCKING ACCUSATIONS AGAINST AYHAN
In a report of IAAF on Sureyya Ayhan, there are accusations which say, ''somebody else appeared instead of Sureyya Ayhan to submit urine sample to IAAF officials for doping test. Ayhan tried to exchange samples''. Ayhan's husband and trainer Yucel Kop who presented a written defense to the Turkish Athletics Federation denied accusations.

5 PERCENT INCREASE IN FUEL OIL PROCES
The government decided to increase fuel products prices by five percent beginning on midnight. Under this decision, one liter of unleaded gasoline rose from 1,982 thousand to 2,081 thousand Turkish liras (1 U.S. dollar: 1,464 thousand TL).

PKK IN KIRKUK
Although the United States assured Turkey that presence of the terrorist organization PKK/Kongra-Gel in northern Iraq would be eliminated, members of the PKK has taken shelter in Kirkuk controlled by Peshmerga fighters. They have begun carrying out their activities officially by opening 16 consultative bureaus. Also, they decorated streets in Kirkuk with posters of Abdullah Ocalan, the head of terrorist organization PKK who has been serving his imprisonment term in Turkey's Imrali Island.

ROADSIDE BOMB EXPLODES KILLING TWO SOLDIERS
Terrorists detonated a roadside bomb, killing two soldiers and injuring two others in Cukurca town of eastern province of Hakkari. The remote-control bomb was detonated as a military vehicle was passing by. Two soldiers in the vehicle were killed and two others were injured in the attack.

ALPOGAN TO BE FIRST CIVIL SECRETARY GENERAL OF NSC
Turkish Ambassador to Greece Yigit Alpogan will be appointed as secretary general of National Security Council (NSC). Sources said that the decree on appointment of Alpogan as secretary general of NSC was prepared. Alpogan will be assigned to this post, as he is experienced in national strategy issues.
