ISTANBUL - The terrorist attack that was waged on the police post in front of the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul might be a "suicide attack", Turkey's interior minister said on Thursday.
Replying to questions of reporters in Istanbul, Interior Minister Besir Atalay said that police detained four people in connection with Wednesday's shootout in front of the U.S. Consulate General.
According to surveillance camera footage and information, authorities considered that it was a "suicide attack", Atalay stated.
One of the assailants who escaped in a getaway car had not been identified yet, he said.
-GERMAN MOUNTAINEERS ABDUCTED IN EASTERN TURKEY-
Answering a question on three German mountaineers who were kidnapped on Mount Agri by PKK terrorists, Atalay said Turkish authorities had been holding talks with German officials related to the abduction.
