Pace Human Rights Commissioner Meets With Northern Cyprus PM Soyer

LEFKOSA - Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) Human Rights Commissioner Thomas Hammerberg and an accompanying delegation met on Wednesday with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer and Foreign Minister Turgay Avci separately.
Hammerberg and the accompanying delegation are currently in the island to prepare a report on human rights in Cyprus.
Speaking to reporters, Hammerberg said he visited Northern Cyprus after his two-day visit to Southern Cyprus, noting that his visit aimed at discussing human rights in Northern Cyprus, listening to the problems and giving advises on the problems.
Hammerberg said he also met TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat and discussed human smuggling, and described human smuggling as "one of the key points in Cyprus."
Hammerberg and the delegation later met TRNC Foreign Minister Avci.
