One Killed, 16 Wounded In Baghdad Mortar Bomb

BAGHDAD, Aug 8 (AFP) - A 10-year-old boy was killed and 16 people wounded late Sunday when a mortar bomb slammed into a small pick-up truck in an eastern residential district of the Iraqi capital, medics said.
The front of the truck was smashed in the impact of the mortar, leaving its chassis completely burnt in the blast, an AFP correspondent said.
A doctor at Ibn al-Nafeez hospital said a 10-year-old boy was killed in the attack and a 13-year-old girl wounded. Six men were also brought in with injuries, he added.
Nine other wounded were taken to Al-Kindi hospital.
The shell fell not far from a police station and about 100 metres (yards) from the popular Baghdad Hotel in the Saadun neighbourhood, near Karada, where two car bombs exploded outside two churches on August 1.
