CAIRO, Aug 8 (AFP) - Five Britons, five Portuguese and two Belgians who went missing while on a Red Sea diving cruise were found alive Sunday after almost 30 hours in the water, Egyptian police said.
A police source said the divers were found "in good health" but taken to a military hospital in the region for a routine examination".
The 12 European divers, missing since Saturday, were spotted in the water, infested by sharks at this time of year, by a passing Egyptian boat which alerted an army search helicopter, they said.
Maritime seach and rescue teams from nearby Sharm el-Sheikh rescued the divers, who had formed a circle in the water to be spotted from the air.
Ten vessels were involved in the search for the divers, who had gone missing off Quseir near two Red Sea islands known as The Brothers, while 10 other tourists on the cruise had remained on the boat "The Oyster".
Police said the rescued divers had been carried away by a strong current and were found a long distance from Quseir, which lies some 800 kilometers (500 miles) south of the capital Cairo.
In Lisbon, the foreign ministry said the five Portuguese were in good health following their rescue. "They are all fine," a spokesman said, quoted by the Lusa news agency.
The Belgian foreign ministry confirmed that the two Belgians, a man and a woman, had been rescued, according to the Belga news agency.
