TWO RET. GENERALS BEHIND BARS
Two retired generals were sent to jail by an Istanbul court early on Sunday under an investigation known as "Ergenekon." Hursit Tolon, former commander of the First Army, and Sener Eruygur, former commander of the gendarmerie forces, are charged with "forming and leading a terrorist group, and attempting to overthrow the government."
GUL MEETS AZERBAIJANI, ARMENIAN PRESIDENTS IN KAZAKHSTAN
Turkish President Abdullah Gul met on Saturday with his Azerbaijani and Armenian counterparts on the sidelines of a ceremonial event in the Kazakh capital of Astana. Gul had a brief chat with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian President Serj Sarkisyan.

FOOTBALL'S HEART STOPS
Head of Turkey's football federation Hasan Dogan passed away on Saturday due to heart attack in the western resort town of Bodrum, where he was spending his holiday. He was elected federation chief 4 months ago. Dogan was 52.
ARMY GENERALS IN PRISON
Ret. generals Sener Eruygur and Hursit Tolon were arrested by an Istanbul court and put behind bars early Sunday in a probe against an alleged criminal network, came to be known as "Ergenekon." The court released Mustafa Balbay, a journalist from the Cumhuriyet daily, who were detained under the latest wave of the operation.
FORMER GOVERNMENT FIGURE SIGNALS NEW PARTY FORMATION
Abdullatif Sener, former deputy premier in the Justice and Development (AK) Party government, said Turkey needed a new political formation and announced that he would set up a new political party. He said the new party would be a center party.

GENERALS IN PRISON
The Criminal Court in Istanbul arrested retired Generals Sener Eruygur and Hursit Tolon on Saturday night who were earlier detained under the Ergenekon probe. The two generals were arrested on charges of "leading a terrorist organization".
WE LOST DOGAN
Turkish Football Association (TFF) President Hasan Dogan has died after a heart attack in Bodrum town of Mugla province on Saturday at the age of 52. Dogan suffered the heart attack after a dinner with Turkish national soccer team coach Fatih Terim and TFF board member Levent Kizil.

SENER TO ESTABLISH A POLITICAL PARTY
Abdullatif Sener who earlier said Turkey needed a new political formation announced on Saturday that he would establish a new political party. Appearing on private Star TV, Sener said, "we think of establishing a center party. It will include people having different political stances."
SINAN AYGUN SENT TO METRIS
Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) Chairman Sinan Aygun had a great shock after he was arrested. Aygun charged with "being a member of terrorist organization" was sent to Metris Prison. ATO executives said they were saddened by his arrest.

BALBAY RELEASED
Mustafa Balbay (Ankara representative of Cumhuriyet newspaper) who was detained in his house in Ankara on July 1st within the scope of Ergenekon investigation was released by a court in Istanbul on Saturday. Balbay stayed five days in custody and gave testimony lasting for nine hours at prosecutor's office.
TWO TERRORISTS KILLED
A clash took place between soldiers and a group of terrorist organization PKK in the southeastern province of Hakkari. Two terrorists were killed in the clash.

ALL EYES ON BELATED INDICTMENT IN ERGENEKON PROBE
A total of 53 people have been sent to prison since June 2007 under an ongoing investigation into an alleged criminal network, known as "Ergenekon," as the prosecutors have yet to present an indictment. The investigation came with six waves of detentions after a cache of hand grenades was discovered in Istanbul. Ex-army members including retired generals, scholars, journalists, writers and a political party leader was among the detainees. The latest detentions wave included retired generals Hursit Tolon and Sener Eruygur. All eyes are now on the belated indictment. The arguments of the prosecutor can put an end to all speculations.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan denied rumors that the government would go to early elections. "We are at the fifth gear and we will not let early elections claims block our path," Erdogan told his party members. "The nation will go to local polls on March 29th. The march will continue whether our party is closed or not. No one can stop us from serving the nation," he said.
ARAGONES SIGNS TWO-YEAR CONTRACT WITH FENERBAHCE
Former coach of the Spanish national football team signed on Saturday a two-year contract to manage Turkey's Fenerbahce. "I am really very happy to be with Fenerbahce. I am here both with my mind and my heart for success," Aragones said.

BITTER DAY OF TURKISH FOOTBALL
Turkish Football Association (TFF) President Hasan Dogan (52) died after a heart attack in Bodrum town of Mugla province on Saturday. Dogan, who had a remarkable impact in Turkish national soccer team's achievement in the Euro 2008 suffered, the heart attack and died at the hospital.
