ANKARA - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that recent developments regarding operation Ergenekon should be followed commonsensibly.
Speaking to his party members, Erdogan said it would not be proper to come up with speculations and groundless information circulating before announcement of the indictment on Ergenekon probe.
An alleged criminal network that came to be known as "Ergenekon" was revealed after police seized hand grenades, TNT explosives and fuses in a shanty house in Istanbul last year. Several Turkish figures, including retired generals, politicians, business leaders and senior journalists, were detained within the scope of the investigation.
The prosecutors carrying out the investigation have not yet completed the indictment of the lawsuit which is believed to be concluded soon.
Erdogan called for common sense, saying Turkey was going through a period that everyone, who loved the country, should act responsibly and carefully to preserve social good sense.
"We believe that speaking of Justice & Development Party (his ruling AK Party) while talking about accusations regarding this case is unfair," Erdogan said.
"Those, who are looking at Turkey from outside, should not be given a wrong idea. They should not be concerned about `what is going on`. I would like to state clearly that democratic system is working with its all institutions and bodies in Turkey. Everything is going on within the rule of law," he said. "We will overcome all difficulties by adhering to democracy."
