ISTANBUL - Akbank, Turkey's largest privately owned bank, was awarded by international finance magazine The Banker, for its "credit machine."
Akbank was given the highly rated award in "new channel delivery category" of the magazine's "Retail Banking Technology Awards" for its "credit machine" invented by Akbank staff.
"In order to quickly reach Turkey's burgeoning market, Akbank has created a non-branch physical contact channel, dubbed Credit Machine, by which to solicit, receive and process credit applications. Based on an ATM, Credit Machine collects personal application information (including identification information and taking a photo of the applicant) in order to process a credit application in an hour," The Banker said.
Akbank Deputy Director-General Halit Yildiz said the machine enables customers to take out a loan without going to a bank office and was created by a Turkish team in one and a half years.
He said there are 6 credit machines serving at the moment and that Akbank aims to increase the number of machines just like ATMs.
