Turkish Conductor Awarded In Italy

ROME - A Turkish conductor was awarded in "Lazio between Europe and Mediterranean Festival" in Italian capital of Rome on Thursday evening.
Gurer Aykal received the award of the festival at a ceremony which took place at the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II.
Culture, Entertainment and Sports Councillor of the Lazio Region Giulia Rodano said Akyal was awarded due to his contributions to music and musical education at the international level.
Gurer Aykal (b. 1942) is a Turkish conductor and Adjunct Professor at Bilkent University. He has been the musical director and principal conductor of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra since 1999.
"Lazio between Europe and Mediterranean Festival" is a cultural festival held annually in Rome, Lazio, Italy. According to "Lazio Culture Council", the purpose of the festival is to promote dialogue and communication exchange between Mediterranean countries and cultures.
