ANKARA - Turkey`s ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party defended itself on Thursday in the country`s highest court on a case to shut down the party.
Deputy Premier Cemil Cicek and Bekir Bozdag, deputy chairman of AK Party`s parliamentary group, presented the party`s verbal defense in the Constitutional Court in a more than six-hour hearing.
Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Cicek said that they told the court why charges against the AK Party "were not probable, true or legal, and why the case shouldn`t have been filed in the first place."
Cicek also said they conveyed their expectation to the court that the case should be settled in the shortest possible time.
