Downer Accepted To Be Cyprus Special Representative Of The Un Secretary General

Austrian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd stated that ex-foreign minister Alexander Downer (56) accepted the mission of Cyprus Special Representative of the UN Secretary General.

Rudd indicated that they took up this issue at a meeting they held with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-mun and that this was an important mission for the UN and they fully support this appointment.

Downer who was the foreign minister in Australia since 1996 has been the foreign minister in Australia for the longest period.
