ANKARA - Turkey`s Chief Public Prosecutor Abdurrahman Yalcinkaya made his verbal statement on closure case against Justice and Development (AK) Party in Ankara on Tuesday.
Chief Public Prosecutor`s verbal statement at the Constitutional Court lasted one and a half hours. Yalcinkaya briefly repeated the indictment and said AK Party wanted to bring Shariah order in Turkey and there was imminent danger regarding this.
He argued that Venice Commission`s guidelines on prohibition and dissolution of political parties were not applicable to the AK Party case.
Yalcinkaya said the annulment of constitutional amendments freeing wearing of headscarf in universities by the Constitutional Court did not invalidate charges against AK Party but on the contrary strengthened them.
Chief Public Prosecutor also referred to recent remarks of AK Party`s senior official Dengir Mir Mehmet Firat saying that "the revolutions made by Ataturk (modern Turkey`s founder) traumatised Turkey" as an example. However he did not submit it as additional evidence.
Yalcinkaya`s verbal statement will be sent to AK Party in the evening in text form.
