ISKENDERUN - Some companies in Iskenderun town of southern province of Hatay decided to suspend transportation of goods to Iraq temporarily, sources told the A.A on Friday.
Iskenderun-based Tempo Transportation Firm owner Mehmet Hazirlar said that they had decided to suspend temporarily transport of loads including equipment for the biggest thermic power plant to be established in Iraq.
He said that killing of a Turkish truck driver in Iraq and decision of the International Transporters' Association (UND) --to stop truck trips to Iraq-- led them to make such a decision.
Hazirlar noted that most of Turkish drivers carrying goods to Iraq had serious security concerns due to chaos reigning in that country.
''Our eight trucks carrying potable water have been waiting at border region. We will try to find Iraqi drivers for transportation. Meanwhile, we will start transporting equipment of the thermal power plant as of August 15. I believe that we will not face any difficulties since the plant will be beneficial to all Iraqis,'' he added.
Meanwhile, Turkish trucks which went to Mosul yesterday, were sent back to Habur border gate by U.S. forces due to security reasons.
