Turkish Foreign Minister Addresses African Union Meeting

SHARM EL SHEIKH - Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan delivered a speech at a meeting of his counterparts in the African Union on the sidelines of the Union`s 11th summit in the Egyptian resort Sharm el Sheikh.
"Africa`s success is tantamount with the success of the humankind and the African continent sits on the center of our common future," Babacan told the meeting.
Babacan said Turkey extended a strong support to African Union`s efforts for peace, democracy, development and prosperity.
"As a friend and a partner, Turkey is determined to work together with African countries for regional cooperation, peace and sustainable development," Babacan said.
The Turkish foreign minister also said that Turkey`s trade volume with the African countries reached 12 billion USD in 2007 and his country aimed at increasing the figure up to 30 billion USD in 2010.
