AMMAN, Aug 5 (AFP) - A Jordanian businessman kidnapped in the Iraqi capital last week, Adel Ubeidallah, has been freed and was flying back to Amman on Thursday, his family said after making a ransom payment of 100,000 dollars.
"The kidnappers freed Adel after we paid a ransom of 100,000 dollars and he left from Baghdad airport, where he has taken the plane to Amman," said one of his brothers, Mansur Ubeidallah.
He said Adel boarded a flight which left Baghdad at 2:45 pm (1145 GMT) and that he was accompanied by his father and a cousin who had travelled to Baghdad to negotiate with the hostage-takkers.
Earlier, another of his brothers, Omar Ubeidallah, said: "We negotiated paying 100,000 dollars to the kidnappers" and added that the ransom "was paid, and we were promised that they will release my brother very soon".
Adel Ubeidallah, 33, a dealer in food supplies for Iraqi traders, was kidnapped on July 28 when gunmen stormed his apartment in Baghdad's Al-Ameriya district, according to the family.
One of his Iraqi partners was killed in the raid, colleagues informed the family in Jordan.
