Athens Tramlines Named After Greek Olympic Champions For Games

ATHENS, Aug 4 (AFP) - Greek Olympic champions Costas Kenteris and Pyrros Dimas are to have lines on Athens' new tramway named after them during this month's Games, officials said Wednesday.
"We'll do it just for the duration of the Games in honour of the two champions," tram spokesman Yiorgos Pikoulas told AFP.
Kenteris, a 200-metre winner in Sydney, and Dimas, a three-time Olympic weightlifting champion in the Barcelona, Atlanta and Sydney Games, both hope to repeat their victories in front of a home crowd in Athens.
Kenteris' name already adorns a ferry shuttling from Athens to his native island of Lesbos.
The 26-kilometre (16-mile) tramway takes passengers between the city centre and the Greek capital's southern, seaside suburbs where a host of Olympic tournaments take place.
But two weeks into its operation, the tram is still dogged by technical problems and frequent delays, often caused because careless Athens residents parking their cars on its tracks.
