RAMADI, Iraq, Aug 3 (AFP) - Six mortar shells were fired late Tuesday on a US base in Ramadi, west of Baghdad, an AFP correspondent reported.
It was not immediately known if there were any casualties following the strike, which sent clouds of smoke billowing above the base.
A US military spokesman for Al-Anbar province, where Ramadi is located, said he had no knowledge of the attack.
US forces in Ramadi are regularly targeted by insurgents.
