ATHENS, Aug 3 (AFP) - Olympics Games organisers confirmed Tuesday that ticket sales have taken off with more than 38,000 tickets sold on Monday alone compared to an average 28,000 a week in June.
But over half of the tickets available for the August 13-29 Games still remain with only 2.2 million so far sold of the 5.3m available.
"We're very satisfied with the sale," said Michalis Zacharatos, a spokesman for the Olympic Games organizing board ATHOC, adding that revenue generated so far by ticket sales was in the region of 157 million euros (190 million dollars).
No tickets remain for either the opening and closing ceremonies or finals, with some 87 percent of tickets for semi-finals already purchased.
