ISTANBUL - Turkish Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan told international fund management companies that money was a "scary bird" and Turkey was a "safety port" for it.
"Turkey is an investible country. Keep believing in Turkey. Always prefer Turkey in the long-term," Unakitan gave advice to executives of more than 20 global fund management companies that control 1.8 trillion USD across the world and met in Istanbul for a conference on investment opportunities in Turkey.
He told the conference that the pending closure case against ruling AK Party was a risk for Turkey. However, he said this risk was caused by an uncertainty and that it would disappear in a few months.
Unakitan also said that Turkey fulfilled several reforms since 2003 and started to integrate with the global economy.
He said fighting inflation was the priority of Turkish government, stating that inflation rate climbed to two-digit figures but it would fall after a while.
"We will maintain fiscal discipline," he said. "And we will continue structural reforms."
