Turkish President, Japanese Premier Issue Joint Declaration, Express Commitment To Further Improve Cooperation

TOKYO - Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukudo issued a joint declaration after their meeting on Friday, expressing commitment to develop closer and dynamic relations and improve cooperation between the two countries in the face of far reaching changes in the world.
The declaration said that two leaders voiced readiness to strengthen partnership to tackle global threats such as weapons of mass destruction, terrorism and development of the African continent.
The declaration said Gul and Fukudo decided to proclaim 2010 as "the Japanese-Turkish Tourism Exchange Year," in a bid to promote mutual relations in tourism.
The two leaders also stressed the importance of the reconstruction process of Iraq and Afghanistan, and stability and prosperity in the Middle East.
