Turkish Parliament Speaker Due To Greece

ANKARA - Turkish Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan will travel to Greece in the following week, his office said on Friday.
Toptan will visit the Greek capital of Athens on June 9th and 10th to participate in a meeting of the presidents of parliaments of Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC).
The conference will begin on June 9th with the opening remarks of Dimitrios G. Sioufas, the speaker of the Greek parliament and the current president of PABSEC.
PABSEC`s Secretary General Alexey Kudriavtsev will read the PABSEC declaration, and participants are expected to adopt the declaration.
Greek President Karolos Papoulias will receive the guest parliament speakers, including Toptan.
Toptan will also meet his Moldovan counterpart Marian Lupu on the sidelines of the conference.
Parliament Speaker Toptan is expected to return to Turkey on June 10th.
Established on February 26th, 1993 as a parliamentary dimension of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), the PABSEC has proven to be an effective forum for inter-parliamentary dialogue in the Black Sea region. With a membership of 76 parliamentarians representing the national parliaments of the twelve BSEC Member States, the PABSEC facilitates the mobilization of efforts by the national parliaments aimed at promoting democratic values, the rule of law, pluralistic society and market economy.
The main objective of the PABSEC is to provide assistance to the national parliaments in enacting the laws that are necessary for the implementation of the projects elaborated within the framework of the Organisation of the BSEC and to establish the legislative foundation for successful multilateral economic, political and cultural cooperation in the region.
