Turkey's monthly Industrial Production Index increased by 6.3 percent in April of 2008 compared to the same month of 2007, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) said on Monday.
The highest annual rate change in the index in April 2008 over the same month of the previous year was realized in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers.
The Monthly Industrial Production Index, with the base year 1997 equal to 100, reached 149.4 points with an increase of 6.3 percent in April 2008.
In the sub sector level of industry, the mining sector index was down 1.1 percent from 103.9 to 102.8, with a rise in the manufacturing industry sector index from 139.5 to 148.9, realizing an increase of 6.7 percent, and utilities, electricity, gas and water index realizing a 5.2 percent increase from 173.6 to 182.7 in April 2008, compared to the same month of the previous year.
The total industry sector index reached 145.6 from 136.4, an increase of 6.7 percent, while the mining sector rose 7.6 percent from 93.9 to 101, the manufacturing industry sector rose 6.5 percent up from 134.8 to 143.5, and the utilities, electricity, gas and water sector rose 9.1 percent from 177.9 to 194, in a comparison of the four-month of the 2007-2008 average.
In a comparison of the April 2007-2008 rate changes in the Manufacture Industry Production Index, the highest increase is seen in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers with a rise of 32.4 percent. Significant increases were also realized in the manufacture of refined petroleum products at 21 percent and the manufacture of tobacco products at 15.6 percent.
