Suspect In Foiled Al-qaeda Chemical Attack Arrested In Jordan

AMMAN, Aug 2 (AFP) - Jordanian authorities have arrested a suspect in a foiled chemical bomb attack, raising to nine the number of people held in the case, a judicial source said Monday.
"Security forces have arrested a Jordanian citizen, Hassan el-Sameek, in the northern city of Irbid who was on the list of wanted men" in the bomb plot, the source told AFP.
He said Sameek "belongs to a group calling itself 'Kataeb al-Tawhid', one of the groups headed by Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi".
Jordanian officials announced in April that the security services had busted a ring planning a suicide attack on the headquarters of the Jordanian intelligence services using trucks loaded with 20 tonnes of chemicals.
In an audiotape posted on a militant Islamic website on April 30, Zarqawi, a Jordanian and suspected top Al-Qaeda operative in Iraq, confirmed his group planned to destroy the Jordanian intelligence headquarters.
But he denied they intended a chemical attack.
