ERDOGAN: TERRORISM DOES NOT HAVE ANY RELIGION AND BELIEF
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke to German Bild newspaper and said terrorism was the calamity of the world and did not have any religion and belief.
Erdogan said, ''Turkey is not an Islam state. It is a democratic country having a majority of Moslem population. It would be wrong to say it is Islam state. You should not have any doubt that Turkey is a European country.''
Erdogan said, ''I even don't want to think about rejection of Turkey's European Union (EU) full membership. If such a decision is taken about Turkey, this would be a historic mistake and injustice.''

LETTER TO 313 GENERALS TO ''MAKE WARNING''
For the first time in Turkey a civilian party, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), wrote letter to 313 generals to ''warn political ruling''.
Political circles were amazed about the letter of MHP Deputy Chairman Mehmet Sandir.
The 17 page letter, dated June 13, bearing the signature of MHP leader Devlet Bahceli, which also included the ''historical call for mission'' was sent to 4,000 people state protocol.
In the letter Sandir wrote: ''Mr. General, our leader Mr. Devlet Bahceli made an evaluation upon the recent developments creating concern. We prepared a text that all the institutions and section of the society should act with the understanding of maximum responsibility and common sense and that the political ruling should be warned in this respect.

SABANCI: NEW STAND-BY WITH IMF IS NECESSARY
Sabanci Holding Executive Board Chairperson Guler Sabanci thinks that Turkey will enter a sensitive period in 2005. Thus, a new stand-by is necessary with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Sabanci said, ''today if Prime Minister says he will sign stand-by with IMF, I think interest rates drop by four points. We should guarantee three more years.''

EXPORTERS BREAK RECORD IN JULY WITH USD 5.6 BILLION
Exports from Turkey in July 2004 rose by 33.9 percent when compared to July 2003. According to the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) data, Turkey broke record in exports in July 2004 with 5 billion 674,362 thousand U.S. dollars. Exports from Turkey in July 2003 had been 4 billion 236,321 thousand U.S. dollars.

PANIC AT SEA
There was panic at sea when an hydrofoil, named Hizir Reis, hit an unknown thing and water leaked inside the hydrofoil.
Water leaked inside the Hizir Reis-3 hydrofoil off shores of Fener Adasi which was on its way from Yenikapi to Bandirma.
The 400 passengers of the hydrofoil was transferred to another hydrofoil. The hydrofoil was pulled to Bandirma port.

IMF DELEGATION COMES WITH A TOUGH PACKAGE
International Monetary Fund (IMF) Turkey Desk Chief, who the government called to Ankara before the scheduled time, will both examine the domestic consistency of the government and bring onto agenda some measures.
IMF does not want concession to be made from the 6.5 percent primary surplus in the year 2005. It also foresees reduction of interest rates as primary.

RAIN IS EXPECTED
Directorate of Meteorology said temperatures will drop and rain is expected in northern parts of the country next week. Temperatures are expected to be around 31-32 degrees Celsius on Monday and 27-28 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
Heavy rain is expected in eastern parts of Marmara region, internal part of the Aegean and Eastern Black Sea region.

BOMB ATTACK PREVENTED AT THE LAST MINUTE
Security forces defused an explosive device planted in Gecitli-Pinarca village in southeastern Hakkari province.
Hakkari Governor Erdogan Gurbuz said patrolling teams of Hakkari Brigade found explosive devices planted on the road of Gecitli-Pinarca village.
Gurbuz said, ''terrorists, aiming to undermine the order and stability in the region, planted explosives on the road used by civilians. There would be many casualties if the explosive devices had exploded. The security forces found and defused the explosive devices before they exploded.''

CIVILIAN TERM STARTS IN NSC
A civilian administrator will be appointed as the National Security Council (NSC) Secretary General after today's Higher Military Board (YAS).
The ambassadors Umit Pamir and Osman Koruturk are the names who are proposed to be the NSC Secretary General.
Under the new structure, the Secretary General will have a civilian and a military aide. Number of soldiers in the Board will be reduced to 9 from 14.

NEW PROGRAM IS READY
Medium term economic program which will be put into force after 2005, is about to be completed. Primary surplus will be 6.5 percent in line with the wish of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The program, which is expected to be 2-year term, will be presented to the IMF on August 10.

YAS CONVENES FOR PROMOTION
The Higher Military Board (YAS) convenes today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to determine Turkish Armed Forces personnel to be promoted and/or retired . The meeting will end on August 5.

GOOD NEWS FROM EXPORT RATES
Positive development in economy with a growth in exports in July. Turkey's exports increased by 34 percent in July, as compared with the same period of last year and reached 5,674 million dollars .

BABACAN: TURKEY WILL START NEGOTIATIONS WITH EU NEXT YEAR
State Minister Ali Babacan said that Turkey will start membership negotiations with the European Union (EU) as of next year and it will pave the path of EU with determination.
