There Is No Democratic Country In World With A Title, General Staff Chief

ISTANBUL - There is no democratic country in the world with a title, Gen. Yasar Buyukanit, Chief of Turkish General Staff, said on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters in a break during the international symposium on the future of the Middle East in Istanbul, Gen. Buyukanit said "how do we define the U.S.? Shall we call it Christian? This is not possible."
"There are certain circles that want to add the title of `moderate Islam` to the Republic of Turkey. The source of such a title does not come from within Turkey but foreign circles," Gen. Buyukanit said.
"We continue cooperation with the U.S. against terror. There is no problem in this area", Buyukanit said.
Reminded by a journalist that certain circles advised Turkey the Ottoman model, Gen. Buyukanit said that he could dream on no model other than the Republic of Turkey.
Asked about what he meant by trucks being utilized in north of Iraq, Gen. Buyukanit said that "reinforcements in north of Iraq take place by trucks. They use trucks instead of pack mules today. Trucks go to Qandil on demand. How can there be a struggle against terrorists with such a reality? Northern Iraqis say that they do not support terrorists when reality suggests otherwise".
