TOKYO - Japanese Emperor Akihito said on Thursday that Japan became modern by clinging into its traditions, and Turkey was doing the same thing.
Turkish President Abdullah Gul, who is currently in Japan, met Emperor Akihito.
The two leaders discussed cultural and historical issues besides economic matters.
Akihito said that his country was closely following Turkey`s opening policy to Africa as well as its influence on Africa.
Gul reminded that Turkey declared 2010 "Japan Year", and reiterated his invitation to Japanese Emperor to Turkey. Emperor Akihito said he would convey the invitation to Japanese government.
When Emperor Akihito expressed his interest in Istanbul city, Gul said that the city developed very much in time, and added that Japanese companies participated in the implementation of Marmaray Project and Bogazici Bridge.
