ISTANBUL - A concert introducing the masterpieces of renowned German composer Johann Sebastian Bach will be held in Istanbul on June 16th.
The concert titled "Bach: Now and Forever" will be held within the framework of the "36th International Istanbul Music Festival", said Boeing, a sponsor of the festival, in a statement on Wednesday.
During the concert to take place at Istanbul's Hagia Irene, flute virtuoso Emmanuel Pahud, harpsichord player Trevor Pinnock and violoncellist Jing Zhao will play several compositions by Bach.
Johann Sebastian Bach is a German composer and organist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra, and solo instruments drew together the strands of the Baroque period and brought it to its ultimate maturity.
Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, an unrivalled control of harmonic and motivic organisation in composition for diverse musical forces, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France.
