NAKHICHEVAN - Azerbaijan's President said on Wednesday that Turkey and his country had similar stances towards all issues.
Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan held a joint press conference following their tete-a-tete meeting in Nakhichevan.
Pointing to the historical and social importance of his meeting with Erdogan, Aliyev said, "Azerbaijan and Turkey's opinions on all issues completely tally with each other".
"Turkey played an important role for Nakhichevan, especially during the crisis in 1990's when the region was under siege (of Armenia)," Aliyev also said.
He said that economic and political issues, as well as joint projects were discussed during his talks with Erdogan.
Aliyev said they exchanged views regarding the status of oil and natural gas pipelines and the Kars-Tbilisi-Baku railway project during the meeting.
"Turkey is a strategical ally for Azerbaijan," Aliyev said, adding that his country was quite pleased with Turkey's efforts aiming at the lifting of the embargo over Nakhichevan.
