ANKARA, Aug 1 (AFP) - A Turkish truck driver has gone missing in Iraq after reportedly coming under an armed attack on a road linking Baghdad and Tikrit, his brother told Anatolia news agency on Sunday.
Relatives lost contact last month with Tevfik Alkan, a father of seven children from the village of Akoba in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, said Abdulvahap Alkan.
"By brother was transporting construction materials from Mersin (in southern Turkey) to Iraq. We have learned from other truck drivers that he came under attack on a road between Baghdad and Tikrit," Alkan said.
"But we do not believe he is dead. I will go to Iraq to find him," he added.
Two Turkish truckers have been taken hostage by the group of Al-Qaeda-linked operative Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi, which is threatening to behead them unless the firm they were working for pulls out of Iraq, the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera television reported.
The two men have been named as Abdurrahman Demir and Sait Unurlu.
Dozens of foreigners working in Iraq have been abducted and taken hostage. Some have been set free, some remain missing and others have been killed.
