Two World Food Program Warehouses Torched In Southern Afghanistan

KABUL, Aug 1 (AFP) - A fire destroyed two warehouses of the World Food Program in the southern Afghan town of Kandahar, the organisation said Sunday.
Ebadullah Ebadi, a WFP representative in Afghanistan capital Kabul said at this stage he was unable to tell if the incident on Friday was arson or an accident.
"Two big warehouses burned. Inside there were textbooks printed by the US for schools. We planned to distribute them in the coming weeks," Ebadi told AFP.
The southern town is a Taliban stronghold and insurgents have stepped up attacks on government officials, aid workers and civilians ahead of the country's first presidential elections in October.
