EXPORTS INCREASE BY 31.8 PERCENT
ANKARA - Exports increased 31.8 percent to 28 billion 589.4 million U.S. dollars and imports rose 47.3 percent to 45 billion 433.8 million U.S. dollars in the January-June period of 2004, the State Institute of Statistics stated on Sunday.
In the same period last year, exports were 21 billion 684.2 million U.S. dollars and imports were 30 billion 837.3 million U.S. dollars.
The foreign trade deficit climbed 84 percent from 9 billion 153.1 million U.S. dollars to 16 billion 844.4 million U.S. dollars; and rate of exports meeting imports dropped from 70.3 percent to 62.9 percent.
Meanwhile, exports increased 33 percent to 5 billion 50.7 million U.S. dollars and imports rose 47.5 percent to 8 billion 446.2 million U.S. dollars in June of 2004.
The foreign trade deficit climbed 75.8 percent to 3 billion 395 million U.S. dollars; and rate of exports meeting imports dropped from 66.3 percent to 59.8 percent.

IMPORTS OF CONSUMER GOODS RISE BY 108.8 PERCENT
Imports of consumer goods increased 108.8 percent to 8 billion 278.4 million U.S. dollars and imports of capital goods rose 84 percent to 6 billion 404.6 million U.S. dollars in the January-June period of 2004, the State Institute of Statistics (DIE) said on Sunday.
Imports of intermediate goods increased 32.2 percent to 30 billion 512.7 million U.S. dollars.
Imports of manufacturing industry goods rose by 54.4 percent and imports of mining and quarry products climbed by 16.2 percent.
Imports of agricultural and forestry products increased 19.9 percent to billion 486.7 million U.S. dollars, and imports of fishery products rose 88.3 percent from 1.2 million U.S. dollars to 2.4 million U.S. dollars.
Exports of consumer goods rose by 30.9 percent, exports of intermediate goods increased by 31.2 percent, and exports of capital goods climbed by 43.8 percent.
Exports of manufacturing industry goods rose by 32.3 percent to 26.8 billion U.S. dollars, and exports of agricultural and forestry products increased by 18.9 percent.
In the January-June period of the year, exports from Turkey to European Union (EU) countries rose 29.7 percent to 15.6 billion U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, imports from the EU-member countries to Turkey climbed 51 percent to 21.9 billion U.S. dollars.
