''HE WAS MY ONLY SON''
Manfred Buchauer of Austria and his Turkish wife lost their lives in last week's high-speed train derailment in northwestern province of Sakarya. His mother Antonia Buchauer said that she was angry with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and all government officials. ''They approved the high-speed train project for their own political purposes by ignoring all warnings of experts. It was a murder. I lost my only son, and they did not send me even a message of condolence,'' she said.

IMF DELEGATION DUE IN TURKEY
A delegation of International Monetary Fund (IMF) headed by IMF's Turkey Desk Chief Reza Moghadam will come to Turkey in the coming week. Releasing a statement, the Turkish Treasury said on Saturday, ''we have reached a certain level in macroeconomic frame of the medium-term economic program for 2005-2007, and structures reforms. State Minister Ali Babacan invited IMF delegation to Turkey in order to exchange views about Turkey's medium-term economic program. The delegation headed by Mr. Moghadam will come to Turkey in the coming week.''

DEATH TOLL INCREASES TO 27 IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN ERZINCAN
Death toll increased to 27 in Thursday's traffic accident in Tercan town of eastern province of Erzincan. Caner Keser, who was seriously injured in the accident, died in the hospital. Meanwhile, six bodies could not be identified yet. Sources said that driver of the bus was responsible for the accident.

INONU LEAVES FOR MEXICO
Prof. Dr. Erdal Inonu, who won the Wigner Medal, one of the most important awards in physics, left for Mexico to take his medal. Earlier, Inonu was banned going abroad. The decision was made because of debts of his brother-in-law Selim Sohtorik. However, the ban was lifted upon directives of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The award ceremony will take place in Mexico on August 4, 2004.

GOVERNMENT INVITES IMF DELEGATION
The government decided to hold pre-negotiations for a new stand-by deal with International Monetary Fund (IMF). An IMF delegation headed by IMF's Turkey Desk Chief Reza Moghadam was invited to Turkey to discuss the new three-year economic program for 2005-2007.

FOUNDATION OF 139 FACTORIES LAID IN KAYSERI
Foundation of 139 factories was laid in central province of Kayseri at a ceremony held with the participation of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul. Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Erdogan said that there was a serious difference between the periods before and after November 3, 2002 in Turkey. He stressed that his Justice and Development Party (AK Party) secured people's confidence in the State.

MINISTRY OF INTERIOR AFFAIRS TO PAY COMPENSATION
The Ministry of Interior Affairs was sentenced to pay a compensation of 40 billion Turkish liras to family of Dr. Necip Hablemitoglu, who was assassinated in an armed attack in Ankara on December 18, 2002. The court ruled that the Ministry of Interior Affairs failed to provide safety of Dr. Hablemitoglu, and sentenced the ministry to pay compensation to his family.

TURKEY-LIBYA JEC MEETING TO BE HELD IN ANKARA IN AUGUST
The 19th term meeting of Turkey-Libya Joint Economic Commission (JEC) will be held in Ankara between August 4-6, 2004. The last JEC meeting between Turkey and Libya took place in 1996. Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen and Labor and Infrastructure Minister Muhammad Matuk Muhammad of Libya will preside the meeting. During the meeting aiming to improve economic and commercial relations between Turkey and Libya, the sides will discuss issues such as energy, irrigation, tourism and construction.

SECURITY FORCES SEIZE 23 TONS OF TNT
Security forces seized 23 tons of TNT among scrap metal brought from Iraq in a depot in Kirikhan town of southern province of Hatay. Acting on a tip-off, security forces raided the depot in Kirikhan and found the explosive. Two people were detained in the operation.

TAKE KAYSERI AS MODEL
Kayseri which causes everybody to marvel at its image of a modern urban with a swiftly developing economy in recent years, completed infrastructure and a municipality without any debt witnessed an historic day yesterday. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan laid foundation of 139 out of nearly 160 plants at the same time by pressing a button. Those plants will be built in the Organized Industry Area in Kayseri. Meanwhile, this event which has never happened before may be included in the Guinness World Records book. Meanwhile, businessmen of Kayseri said that there were few unemployed people in Kayseri so when those plants opened, many unemployed people from other provinces would come to Kayseri.

ECONOMY ON GOOD TRACK
Making a statement on completion of the eighth review of the economic program, International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Turkey Desk Chief Reza Moghadam said, ''Turkey follows a successful and powerful policy. We appreciate it.'' Moghadam said that the Turkish government would decide on whether Turkey would continue with IMF after 2005.

ASPIRIN: 1.1 MILLION
Prices of medicine rose by 8.75 percent as of today. A box of Aspirin is now sold for 1.1 million Turkish liras (TL) while price of Novalgine tablet is increased from 1 million 520 thousand TL to 1 million 650 thousand TL. (1 U.S. dollar: 1 million 474 thousand TL).

I DIVULGED ISRAEL'S NUCLEAR SECRETS TO PREVENT A NEW GENOCIDE
Mordechai Vanunu who shocked the world public opinion as he spoke out about the nuclear weapons of Israel while he was working as a technician at Israel's Dimona nuclear installation spoke to the newspaper. His first ever words to a Turkish daily: ''I only wanted to prevent a new genocide by drawing attention to Israel's nuclear power. I feel no remorse.'' Speaking to the newspaper reporter on the phone, Vanunu said, ''I want to mention that I did it not only for Israeli people but also for all peoples in the Middle East. If any country makes it, all peoples in the region kill each other. I only wanted to prevent these.'' Stressing that the best way for settling peace in the Middle East was to force Israel to resolve the Palestine case, Vanunu said that there would not be possibility of use of nuclear weapons if peace came to the Middle East.
