IZMIR - The chairman of a leading Turkish jewelry manufacturer said on Monday that Turkey started to export brand diamond products to the world.
In an interview with A.A, Imam Altinbas, chairman of Altinbas Holding, said that Turkey was ranked the second in the world with its exports in goldsmithery reaching 4 billion USD.
He said Italy was currently at the first place in the ranking.
"Turkish goldsmithery can rise up to the first place in the world ranking and its exports in this sector can reach 10 billion USD in the next 5 years," Altinbas said.
Turkey had exported simple gold products so far, Altinbas said. "Nowadays, the country has started to export diamond products worth 15,000-20,000 USD and sometimes even 100,000 USD."
Altinbas said exports of brand diamond products by Turkey was a remarkable development. He said this could carry the country to the top place in the world ranking soon.
Altinbas Holding, whose foundations were laid in 1950`s, comprises of 30 companies operating in the fields of energy, finance, jewelry, transportation and construction with its 3500 employees.
Altinbas Jewelry, a company of the holding, represents the Turkish jewelry sector in more than 35 countries including the world`s top-notch markets such as USA, Germany, Russia, Bulgaria and Romania.
