ANKARA, July 31 (AFP) - A Turkish truck driver abducted in Iraq has been released and has returned home, the CNN-Turk news channel said Saturday.
Mehmet Dayar, whose abduction was reported by a fellow Turkish driver on July 19, was set free after promising never to work in Iraq again, the channel said in a report on its web site.
Dayar has returned to his hometown of Cizre in the province of Sirnak, it said.
Foreign ministry officials were not immediately available for comment.
Dayar was abducted on July 17 when masked gunmen attacked a convoy of eight Turkish trucks transporting fuel to the US army in Iraq, several kilometers from the northern city of Mosul, according to the account of fellow driver Ridvan Bayik.
One of the drivers was killed in the attack.
Bayik had told AFP he saw the assailants putting one of his colleagues in a car and driving away. He had identified the man only as Mehmet from Cizre.
The body of another Turkish truck driver who had gone missing in Iraq was found in a morgue in Baghdad and brought home earlier this week.
Two Turkish drivers were killed by unknown gunmen near the town of Samarra north of Baghdad earlier in July.
