ANKARA - The Higher Military Board (YAS) will convene on August 2, 2004 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The YAS will discuss promotion and retirement of military personnel and the other issues concerning the Turkish Armed Forces.
Besides Prime Minister Erdogan, General Staff Chief General Hilmi Ozkok, National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul, Land Forces Commander General Aytac Yalman, Naval Forces Commander Admiral Ozden Ornek, Air Forces Commander General Ibrahim Firtina, Gendarme Forces Commander General Sener Eruygur, First Army Commander General Yasar Buyukanit, Second Army Commander General Fevzi Turkeri, Third Army Commander General Oktar Ataman, Aegean Army Commander General Hursit Tolon, General Staff Deputy Chief General Ilker Basbug, Land Forces Staff Chief General Fethi Remzi Tuncel, War Academies Commander General Faruk Comert, NATO Joint Command Southeast (JCSOUTHEAST) Commander General Orhan Yoney, National Security Council (NSC) Secretary General General Sukru Sariisik and Fleet Commander Admiral Yener Karahanoglu will attend the meeting.
The meeting will end on August 5.
The decisions made at the meeting will be made public after being approved by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.
