John Tanner, chairperson of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATOPA) group of the U.S. House of Representatives, and an accompanying delegation attended a luncheon held in their honor by Vahit Erdem, chairperson of the NATOPA group of the Turkish parliament.
After the luncheon at the Turkish parliament, the two chairmen held a joint press conference.
Speaking at the conference, Tanner said the threat of terrorism was discussed during all their talks in Turkey so far.
Expressing the U.S. support for Turkey`s fight against terrorism, Tanner said terrorism was the biggest enemy of democracy.
Tanner also said he expected to hold fruitful talks on issues related to NATO and security with Turkish officials, adding that he would pay a visit to the Incirlik Base in the southern Adana province as well.
During the conference, Erdem said that Turkey`s relations with USA and NATO were mainly discussed during today`s meeting.
"The friendship between Turkey and USA is based on a strong foundation, mutual interests and cooperation," he said.
Erdem also said that Turkish officials agreed with their U.S. counterparts on issues such as terrorism, mass destruction weapons and all kinds of matters threatening human rights.
