ISTANBUL - The 64TH annual meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the World Air Transport Summit will be held in Istanbul from June 1st to 3rd.
More than a thousand delegates of IATA and nearly 200 journalists will be in Istanbul to attend the events at the Conrad Hotel.
IATA Director General & CEO Giovanni Bisignani said at a news conference prior to the meetings that they saw an incredible success story in Turkish civil aviation.
He said that there was a 6 percent increase in air traffic in Turkey between January and April while the increase in the EU was a mere 3.8 percent.
Bisignani also eulogized Turkish government`s decision to make IATA`s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) an obligation for all airlines companies.
IATA is the global trade organization of the air transport. IATA`s mission is to represent, lead and serve the airline industry. Its members comprise some 240 airlines --the world`s leading passenger and cargo carriers being among them -- representing 94 percent of scheduled international air traffic.
