ANKARA - Foreign exchange reserves of Turkish Central Bank rose to 78.3 billion USD on May 23rd, the bank said on Thursday.
The reserves were 77.4 billion USD on May 16th.
In its weekly bulletin, the Central Bank said its total gross reserves (foreign currency plus gold) increased to 127.1 billion USD on May 16th. They were around 123.6 billion USD on May 9th.
Of May 16th`s total gross reserves, 46.2 billion USD was from privately owned companies, including commercial banks, while the Central Bank held the rest.
Meanwhile, Turkey repaid 541 million USD of foreign debt between May 1st and 28th.
Turkey paid back 19.3 billion USD of foreign debt in 2007, and the foreign debt Turkey has repaid since the beginning of 2008 amounted to 7.8 billion USD.
