WASHINGTON D.C. - A U.S. congressman praised Ataturk, founder of Republic of Turkey, in a statement he sent to the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives on the occasion of May 19th, Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth & Sports Day on Tuesday.
Jean Schmidt, a Republican Congressman from Ohio, said in the statement that everybody should draw lessons from the life of Ataturk.
Schmidt said only the leaders who could combine vision and determination could lay the foundations of a great future, adding that Turkey's neighbors should draw lessons from this approach of Ataturk.
In his statement, Schmidt also cited former U.S. President John F. Kennedy's and former U.S. General Douglas MacArthur's words praising Ataturk's leadership.
