Turkish Cypriots Think Negotiations May Begin In Second Half Of June

LEFKOSA - A Turkish Cypriot spokesman said on Tuesday that his country thought that negotiations with the Greek Cypriots might begin in the second half of June.
Hasan Ercakica, the spokesman of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Presidential Office, commented on the speculative stories of the Greek Cypriot media that comprehensive negotiations would be launched in September.
"We still think that comprehensive settlement negotiations may begin in the second half of June," Ercakica told a press briefing in Lefkosa, TRNC.
Ercakica said Turkish Cypriot state would continue to encourage the Greek Cypriot administration to launch comprehensive negotiations as soon as possible.
TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias agreed late in March to resume negotiations aiming at a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem, and their envoys later agreed to set up a number working groups and committees in an initial attempt to lead the way for substantial talks.
The two leaders are expected to meet again in June.
