Turkey's First Railway To Be Renovated

AYDIN - Turkey`s first railway, constructed between the Aegean provinces of Aydin and Izmir in 1856 by Britain, is being renovated with a 20 million USD of investment.
Sebahattin Eris, a senior official from the Turkish Railway Authority, told AA on Tuesday that they had launched a project that would renew the 130 km long railway tracks between the two cities with the latest technology.
Sebahattin Eris said certain sections would be renovated with special tracks that would allow the trains speed up to 169 km/h. He said it would reduce the travel time between Aydin and Izmir to below 2.5 hours.
Eris said the new railway would enliven the region.
So far, 80 kms section of the railway was completed.
The railway was renovated once in 1959.
