BRUSSELS - Turkish foreign minister urged the European Union to honor its word over Turkey`s bid for full membership ahead of Tuesday`s meeting of the association council between Turkey EU.
"The principle of pacta sunt servanda is one of the most important principles of the EU and we expect from our friends to show more attention to this issue," Babacan told reporters before the council meeting which is expected to discuss a position paper on Turkey`s accession.
"An EU member country had made a failed attempt to omit the word `accession` in the EU common position paper and of course these discussions are disturbing. The reforms process in Turkey can only be completed as long as full EU membership target stood still. Otherwise questions might arise in Turkey," Babacan said.
