Turkish Minister Defines Solingen Disaster As A Shame Of Humanity

SOLINGEN - A Turkish state minister defined on Monday the "Solingen" disaster as a shame of humanity.
Turkish State Minister Said Yazicioglu participated in a ceremony in which the victims of an arson attack in Solingen, Germany were commemorated.
The arson attack killed five Turks in Solingen, Germany on May 29th, 1993.
"What was experienced 15 years ago was a shame of humanity," Yazicioglu said in the ceremony.
Turkish-German Health Foundation decided to name an award after the "Genc" family, the five members of which lost their lives in the Solingen disaster, and to grant the award every two years.
The first award was presented to Cologne Mayor Fritz Schramma and Kamil Kaplan, a Turk who was a survivor of an arson attack in Ludwigshafen, Germany in February.
Nine people, including five children, were killed in the fire in Ludwigshafen.
In the ceremony, Yazicioglu also said that the Solingen attack targeted tolerance and mutual respect, but expressed belief that Germany would continue to fight against xenophobia with determination.
