ANKARA - Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Monday that commemorative meetings about the so-called Pontic genocide, which had been held within the scope of a law adopted by Greek Parliament on February 24th, 1994, were against the dialogue and cooperation climate between Turkey and Greece.
The Ministry said, "we strongly condemn the activities targeting our country as well as Ataturk --the founder of our Republic. We are contemplating these activities which are against common sense and based on a distorted understanding of history, with concern. We also call on the claimants of those allegations to face with historical realities."
The Ministry also said that participation of Greek MPs, political party officials, local administrators and representatives of Greek government in this year`s activities is a proof of the support towards those activities.
Turkey stressed its serious concern and underlines that such attitudes --which harms friendship and confidence building efforts between Turkish and Greek peoples-- would deteriorate cooperation between the two countries.
