MBABANE, July 29 (AFP) - Twenty-two people died Thursday in Swaziland's second-worst road accident after a speeding bus crashed into a car in the east of the tiny southern African country.
Police spokesman Vusi Masuku said the crash occurred in the afternoon, at the town of Maphiveni, about 150 kilometres (93 miles) from the capital city of Mbabane and close to the Mozambican border.
"We learnt with shock that 22 people died today at Maphiveni when their bus was involved in an accident while trying to overtake a truck," Masuku told AFP.
Witnesses said the bus rammed into an oncoming vehicle while trying to overtake the truck.
Swaziland's worst road crash occurred in 2002, claiming 27 lives.
