Turkish PM Leaves For Lebanon To Attend Parliamentary Session To Convene To Elect Country's New President

ANKARA - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan departed on Sunday for Lebanon to attend the general assembly session of the Lebanese Parliament which will convene to elect the new president of the country.
Erdogan told reporters at Ankara`s Esenboga Airport before his departure that Turkey wanted stability and prosperity in its region.
"In this respect, we will continue to exert efforts on the way to settle disputes in our region with dialogue and compromise," he said.
Presidential elections turned into a stalemate and a threat to political stability in Lebanon since 2006 that could even destroy integrity of the country, Erdogan said.
He said Turkey assumed a role, through special envoys or phone diplomacy, to facilitate dialogue and compromise among the countries in the region and political actors in Lebanon.
"We are very pleased to see that elections will finally be held," Erdogan said.
Last week, Lebanese leaders met in Qatar and agreed to put an end to political crisis in the country.
