BRUSSELS - European Union will ask Turkey to reinforce impartiality of judiciary and enhance public confidence in judiciary at the Association Council meeting, the most important decision-making body on Turkish-EU relations, to be held this week.
The common position paper, which will be approved on Monday by EU foreign ministers without any debates, for Tuesday`s Association Council meeting, says cases filed to ban political parties in Turkey have been closely monitored by EU.
The paper says the EU has confidence that case results will be in line with European Court of Human Rights decisions and Council of Europe Venice Commission guidelines.
The paper calls on all Turkish political actors to settle disagreements with dialogue and respecting fundamental freedoms, constitution and democratic secularism.
It says impartiality, independence and effectiveness of Turkish judiciary need to be reinforced to enhance public confidence in judiciary.
EU will also ask Turkey to put its plans into practice regarding provincial courts of appeal as soon as possible.
