O.I.C. Troika Expects Support From The U.N. For African Union's Efforts To Solve Darfur Crisis

ANKARA - Turkey, Iran and Yemen, which form the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Troika, sent a written note to the United Nations and expressed their expectation for a support to efforts of African Union to solve Darfur crisis, said Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesman Namik Tan.
Tan evaluated the statements of Sudanese External Affairs Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail who said Turkey could play a role of mediator between Sudan and the United States to solve the Darfur crisis.
Tan reminded that OIC countries' permanent representatives to the U.N. discussed Darfur crisis on July 12. He said that African Union (AU) took some initiatives to solve the crisis and a compromise was reached to grant time to the AU for the success of the initiative.
Tan said that OIC Troika permanent representatives to the U.N. conveyed this view to U.N. Security Council in a written note on July 15 and they expect the Security Council to support the efforts of African Union.
