Dutch Violinist Jansen Gives Concert At Opening Of 7th Mersin Music Festival

MERSIN - Dutch violinist Janine Jansen gave concert at the opening of 7th international Music Festival held in southern province of Mersin.
The outstanding 280-year-old instrument being used by Janine Jansen is the violin by Antonio Stradivari, Cremona, 1727, "Barrere" --on extended loan from the Elise Mathilde Fund through the intermediation of The Stradivari Society of Chicago. Bilkent Symphony Orchestra accompanied Jansen during her concert.
She has worked with such eminent conductors as Sir Andrew Davies, Mark Elder, Valery Gergiev, Neeme Jarvi, Paavo Jarvi, Sakari Oramo, Mikhail Pletnev, and Edo de Waart.
A total of 39 musicians, 24 music bands and three symphony orchestras have participated in this festival so far.
Latvian soprano Marina Rebeka and tenor Aldo Di Toro will take the stage with Bilkent Symphony Orchestra at Culture Center on May 23rd.
"Los Vivancos" dance group comprising 7 brothers from Spain will perform in Mersin on May 25th within the scope of the festival.
Violinist Esra Pehlivanli and German accordionist Marko Kassl will give a concert at the Culture Center on May 26th.
Azer Zeynalov, Sahlar Quliyev, Zemfira Ismayilova from Baku Opera and pianist Melahat Ismayilova will give two concerts in the city on May 28th and 29th.
String Inspirations Quintet group consisting of 5 musicians and two dancers will perform on May 31st.
The festival will end with the concert of German Leipzig String Quartet on June 2nd.
