ISTANBUL - In a report prepared on Turkey`s "Energy Strategy", Turkish Industrialists` & Businessmen`s Assoc. (TUSIAD) said that the privatization of energy production should not be delayed until the privatization of energy distribution grids.
According to TUSIAD, power production should be privatized immediately to have an impact on the creation of a free market.
"There is need for a solid strategy in power generation that would result in confidence and to wipe out uncertainties", told TUSIAD in its energy report.
"Turkey`s Energy Ministry plans to boost investments to increase capacity in the energy sector by 150 percent before 2020. In order to reach this goal, Turkey needs to speed up the privatization process", said TUSIAD.
The delay in liberalization leaves Turkey at risk of insufficient energy supply, said TUSIAD.
A liberal energy market is a must not only for the Turkish business community but also for Turkey`s prospective EU membership, also told TUSIAD in its report.
